چکیده
Cane rat, a micro livestock currently being domesticated has the potential to increase animal protein sources. This study examined qualitative characteristics of Thyryonomys swinderianus (Tss) and Thryonomys gregorianus (Tsg). Three hundred thirty five cane rats were sampled. Seven characters coded. These included: Shape Head (SH), Eye Placement (EP), Ear (ES), Body Pelage (BP), Tail (TS), Colour (TC), Breed (B). The scored on individual animals. measures analysed using frequency distribution chi-square analysis. In Tss population, 89.23% animals had broad heads, 10.77% narrow heads. heads tip ear (89.236) have brown yellow - belly white body colour (89.23%). Their tail is base thin out (87.69%) although few (1.54%) even tip. All (89.23%) yellow-belly (100.00%) black hairy tail. Tsg 87.06% (12,94%) (86.67%) with (86.67%). (80.39%). (87.06), (99.61%)

Gonadal and extragonadal sperm reserves of the domesticated adult African greater cane rat (Thryonomys swinderianus).
Gonadal and extragonadal sperm reserves were determined in twenty sexually matured domesticated African greater cane rats. Mean (+/-SD) sperm numbers in testes and epididymides were 150.40+/-12.93x10(9) and 259.33+/-13.68x10(9), respectively. The mean epididymal distribution of spermatozoa was found as follows: 67.53+/-12.43x10(9) in caput, 89.10+/-13.20x10(9) in corpus, and 102.70 +/-13.71x10(...
متن کاملThe morphology and morphometry of the epididymis in the greater cane rat (Thryonomys swinderianus Temmincks).
The structure and morphometry of the epididymis in the greater cane rat were studied in this work. In assessing the morphology and characterising the morphometric values, a total of 15 adult male greater cane rats, bred and raised in captivity, were used. All the animals had brownish perineal staining, which was taken as index of sexual maturity in male cane rats, and they were maintained on el...
متن کاملPerformance of Growing Grasscutters (Thryonomys swinderianus) Fed Cassava-Based Diets with Graded Protein Levels
Forages and crop residues are inexpensive and easily available feedstuffs for feeding grasscutters in captivity. These feedstuffs are nutritionally poor, not balanced for optimum performance and, therefore, required supplementation. Protein requirement of growing grasscutters was determined using thirty two 10-weeks old male grasscutters of equal weights. The grasscutters were separated into fo...

The aim of this study was to describe de fiber composition in the thigh muscles of grass cutter (Thryonomys swinderianus, Temminck 1827). Ten 4 to 6-month-old (3 to 4 kg) male grasscutter were used in this study. Eleven skeletal muscles of the thigh [M. biceps femoris (BF), M. rectus femoris (RF), M. vastus lateralis (VL), M. vastus medialis (VM), M. tensor fasciae latae (TFL), M. semitendinosu...
متن کاملProductive Performance and Carcass Characteristics of Captive Grasscutters (Thryonomys swinderianus) Fed Concentrate Diets Containing Varying Levels of Guinea Grass
An experiment was conducted to evaluate the productive performance and carcass characteristics of three groups of growing grasscutters fed home-made concentrate diets. The objective was to assess the feeding values of the diets. The diets were labelled 0% grass diet, 7.5% grass diet and 15% grass dietand respectively contained 0, 7.5 and 15% guinea grass, Panicum maximum. The completely randomi...
